An interdisciplinary approach to the mechanical aspects of human movement, with the particular focus on gait, gait energetics, and mechanisms for lower extremity injury. Part of a general program in human performance, the biomechanics major takes an interdisciplinary approach to the mechanical aspects of human movement. You'll research gait, gait energetics, and mechanisms for lower extremity injury, and graduate prepared for a career in the research and development of sports equipment or an academic research laboratory. As a biomechanics student, you'll take coursework in the other areas within human performance to understand the mechanical, neural, and physiological aspects of human motion and gain knowledge and skills in statistics, data processing, and biomechanical research design. You will select elective courses with approval from your advisor and have opportunities to assist with research in the Biomechanics Laboratory.
