As a freshman applicant, you must have completed secondary school and earned an appropriate secondary certification or passed an appropriate external exam. Grades should be above average and course selection must include preparatory study in humanities, mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences. Official secondary school credentials with certified English translations when necessary , This is generally demonstrated by a minimum score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of 80 (iBT) or 550 (paper-based), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5. Admission to Western Washington University is selective. To qualify for admission consideration, freshman applicants must meet the State of Washington's minimum college admission standards which include a cumulative GPA of 2.00 and completion of courses that meet the College Academic Distribution Requirements (CADRs).

Kinesiology is the concentrated study of human movement from developmental, mechanical, motor control, psychosocial, psychological, pathological, and physiological perspectives. The Kinesiology - Movement Studies Specialization is recommended for students who wish to pursue a variety of career opportunities related to kinesiology. The Movement Studies Specialization provides a concentrated study of human movement from mechanical, physiological, and pathological perspectives. The program is appropriate for students who plan to work in the fitness/exercise industry or any other field such as coaching or rehabilitation, where human movement and exercise prescription are the focus. Additionally, this degree can serve as the gateway degree to the allied health professions (physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant) or preparation for post-baccalaureate study in other areas such as exercise physiology, health and fitness, biomechanics, physical therapy, sport psychology, nutrition, and human growth and motor development. Supporting courses from biology, chemistry, computer science, communications, health education and physics are included to provide more in-depth analysis of principles associated with human structure and function.
