It is strongly recommended that the prospective student complete, by the date of enrollment in the graduate program, a Bachelor’s degree with a major in mathematics or a related field with a GPA greater than 3.0. The department requires transcripts of all undergraduate work, two letters of recommendation, and results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants for the industrial applied mathematics concentration must submit a statement indicating that they are proficient in at least one of the following programming languages: Fortran, C, C++, or an equivalent. Students concerned about their preparation should contact the concentration coordinator.
The minimum TOEFL scores are 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based).
The minimum IBT internet-based TOEFL scores: writing 22, speaking 23, reading 21, listening 17.
An acceptable IELTS score is bandwidth 7.

Industrial Mathematics is a branch of mathematics that is concerned with developing mathematical methods and applying them to engineering, science, society, and industry. This program is aimed at developing multidisciplinary students who have up-to-date knowledge in their fields, but who also understand the linkage between mathematics and business. This program puts an emphasis on mathematical modeling, computational techniques, and statistical reasoning. Students will develop skills in abstraction, analysis of structure and logical thinking. They will also develop expertise in formulating and solving problems. This concentration provides the knowledge of modeling and numerical techniques fundamental to pursuing a career in industry. Students in this concentration will also study quantative finance, analytics, as well as risk management.
