Three letters of recommendation are required for admission. Your references will be contacted electronically to complete a recommendation for you. In addition, they should copy and paste a formal letter of recommendation into the comments section of the electronic form.
A resume or curriculum vitae should be uploaded when completing the online application.
Transcripts: Applicants are required to electronically upload unofficial copies of transcripts (or equivalent documents for institutions outside the U.S., e.g., degree/study certificates, diplomas, etc.) from all post-secondary institutions attended, in the language of instruction (and copies of an official English translation if English is not the language of instruction).
All international applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the Internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisional admission, with Graduate School approval, which requires an institutional test of English proficiency upon the first semester of enrollment and, if necessary, remedial course work. The minimum composite score for the IELTS is 6.5.

Ph.D. candidates in the Department of Statistics can tailor the program to suit their career goals. Depending on the choice of courses, the program can emphasize theoretical, applied, or computational aspects of statistics and data analysis. Those that choose to emphasize statistical theory would be well prepared to pursue an academic career in research and teaching. An emphasis on applied or computational statistics would be appropriate for a career in government such as at the census bureau, developing methodologies for government surveys, or in industry, assisting with high-level data analytics, research, and in the design and analysis of surveys and experiments.
