The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Mississippi State University is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, and offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Science in Mathematics, Master of Science in Statistics, and Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematical Sciences. These programs are flexible and permit specialization in many areas of mathematics and statistics. Founded in 1878 as "The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi," the University has since diversified to become a comprehensive research institution offering both graduate and undergraduate degrees in eight colleges and professional schools.
