Admission is selective. All applicants who have received a baccalaureate from an accredited institution with a cumulative grade point average or 3.00 or more will be considered. The successful candidate's background should include courses in multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations, and a knowledge of at least one high-level scientific programming language such as Pascal, Fortran, C, or PL/1. Students admitted without some aspects of the required background will be expected to remedy the deficiency before enrolling in many of the courses of the program.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics provides three Master's level programs: MA in Mathematics - which provides the students a broad knowledge in mathematics, with emphasis on mathematics that has applications to engineering, software development, applications of dynamical systems to biology, epidemiology, and population dynamics, networks, etc., MS in Applied Statistics - which provides high level conceptual, theoretical, applied and computational statistical methods that apply in a wide range of settings, such as quality control in industry, biological sciences, medical sciences, etc., and MS in Industrial Applied Mathematics (MSIAM), which has a more computational emphasis of mathematics, aimed at those who wish to find employment in industry.
