Management Information Systems (MIS) managers focus on an organization's information system and technology. MIS appeals to students who enjoy working with computers and problem-solving. Computer technology is critical to the way today's organizations conduct business. MIS students learn to analyze business problems and to design, build and maintain computer applications for solving those problems. All MIS students take the 37-credit-hour core business curriculum that is modeled on the interrelationships among the functional areas of business as they occur in the real world. Emphasis is on developing skills for effective teamwork, communication and leadership?the skills employers value highly. In addition to the core classes, MIS majors must earn credit hours in required management courses and in required MIS electives. MIS courses include such topics as database management systems, business applications programming, business information systems, data communications and systems design.
