The applied accounting program prepares students for entry- and midlevel accounting positions in payables and/or receivables, bookkeeping and payroll accounting. This program covers financial decision-making tools for the small-business operator as well. Courses in the applied accounting program address the concerns of modern businesspeople and provide training to enhance business success. The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in applied accounting is a two-year program designed to prepare you to begin a successful career in the accounting profession and establish a gateway for more advanced degrees. Students who have completed the accounting technician certificate will be able to apply their credits towards the A.A.S. degree in applied accounting. You will complete courses that will advance your knowledge of accounting principles, payroll accounting, accounting software systems, income tax, and fund accounting for nonprofits. Program coursework also includes business courses in customer service, supervision, spreadsheet applications, and financial management.
