Human resource management deals with the effective management of individuals and groups in organizational settings. The field of human resources management is growing in importance as organizations realize that people issues are critical to the production of quality goods and services, customer satisfaction, and long-term organizational viability. The human resource management (HRM) sequence at Illinois State University emphasizes the teaching of effective, dynamic, and leading-edge human resource management practices in the private, public, and nonprofit organizational settings. The sequence provides students with advanced skills and knowledge in human resource management consistent with meeting organizations' current needs in confronting a dynamic and increasingly globalized world. Most faculty members have a Ph.D., are active researchers in their areas of expertise, and possess practical experience. Courses are active, participative, and experiential. Students in the HR program take specialized courses in Compensation and Benefits Administration, Recruitment and Selection, Employee and Labor Relations, Career Management, Performance Evaluation, Strategic Human Resource Planning, and Human Resource Development. In addition, they acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to assist organizations in changing employee attitudes, intentions, and behaviors consistent with emerging or new organizational cultures.<br><br>The HRM sequence offers a number of specialized courses to prepare students for entry-level positions in human resources departments and to provide the broad background needed for long-term career success. Graduates of the human resource management program are employed in a variety of positions including human resource generalists, benefits administrators, compensation analysts, employee relations specialists, corporate recruiters, corporate trainers, quality control specialists, and human resource managers. The human resource management (HRM) sequence is maintains a 100% pass rates of students on the Certified Staffing Professional and Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) exams.
