The diverse curriculums of Sport and Leisure Management (undergraduate) and Sport Commerce (graduate) develop students with the skills essential to enter careers in marketing, management, facility and event operations, and other administrative positions in a constantly evolving sport and leisure marketplace. With diverse experience and expertise, the sport management faculty focus on connecting academic knowledge with practical application to help students prepare for the sport and leisure industry. Students have the flexibility to take courses on campus or online while getting field experience through numerous opportunities in the Memphis area. Graduates have secured employment with teams, facilities, events, collegiate athletic departments, governing bodies, corporate sport marketing departments, sport marketing agencies, and community recreation organizations.<br>Program objectives are: (1) to recognize the diverse nature of subject matter embodied within the respective program disciplines; (2) to prepare students to serve in management and leadership positions in the sport or hospitality industry (3) to understand the research findings and theoretical constructs undergirding the respective disciplines; and (4) to understand the critical role of diversity in delivering inclusive hospitality or sport science services. The required number of credit hours is 33. The Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality and Resort Management (KWS) at The University of Memphis was created and named after the founder of Holiday Inns, Kemmons Wilson, Sr. KWS offers a balance of academics and experiential learning in the hospitality, resort, and tourism business stressing global awareness, diversity and sustainability.
