Students who have completed 60 credits or a 60-credit tourism management, hospitality management, or related diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution can apply for direct entry into the third year of the Bachelor of Tourism Management (BTM) program.
Students must submit official high school and university or college transcripts for admission. We will accept photocopies of transcripts if certified by the authorizing high school, university, or college officer. Notarized copies are not acceptable. An academic document is original if issued to the student by the institution following that institution's policies. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
The School of Tourism Management welcomes students with previous tourism management, hospitality management or related disciplines to apply for direct entry into the Bachelor of Tourism Management. Your institution may already be part of our articulation network, to find out please visit www.bctransferguide.ca and search block agreements or course by course.
Direct Entry
Students who have completed 30 credits or a 30-credit tourism management, hospitality management, or related certificate can apply for direct entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Tourism Management. Students are to have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 and meet program entry requirements.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - online test (TOEFL iBT) 83, paper-delivered test 560
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - 6.5 overall, with no single score below 6

A degree in tourism management broadens your understanding of the global issues, impacts and challenges facing the tourism industry and prepares you to be effective in complex situations. Courses emphasize sustainability, community engagement, global consciousness and experiential learning with options to earn concentrations in hotel and resort management or adventure. With over 1 billion international travellers each year, tourism is a global economic driver. In addition, 1 in every 11 jobs in Canada is directly attributed to tourism and in BC contributes more than 17 billion to the economy. We encourage students to take advantage of international exchanges through a field school, a study abroad semester with one of our global partner institutions (usually in the third year) or our academic exchange that includes a work term at Walt Disney World.<br><br>Learning outcomes<br>Evaluate social and environmental issues and create positive change.<br>Determine and apply communication strategies appropriate to audience, purpose, and context.<br>Plan, lead, organize and control resources for effective and efficient business operations.<br>Implement strategies for evidence-based decision making.<br>Make decisions based on the organizational structure of local, provincial, national, and international tourism industry.<br>Apply effective networking practices to develop industry connections and build professional relationships.<br>Exhibit an exemplary level of professional, culturally - aware interpersonal communications with a diverse audience in areas of team functioning, customer service and conflict resolution.<br>Act in a way that exhibits integrity, ethics, and determination as is relates to the tourism and hospitality industry.
