This well-established International Hospitality Management course will give you the skills to be an effective manager within the global industry, whether you are thinking of developing your management skills to work in restaurants, bars, conferences, hotels or resorts. This industry focus is emphasised throughout all aspects of the programme, thus it will enable you to gain a competitive edge in the graduate job market, and you can personalise your study and your optional third year work placement according to your chosen career path. Course numbers are kept small so that you can develop close working relationships with staff and other students very quickly.The course is delivered by a dynamic team of academics, many of whom have international experience and are publishing in a variety of journals, trade press and media outlets. The course has a number of employability-based modules and students are encouraged to work part-time for valuable work experience.This course provides a strong management orientation through the study of marketing issues alongside the analytical approach of talent management, applied research and service quality. The international nature of the industry is also considered in more detail by conducting a study of current trends in hospitality, corporate hospitality and related business events. Planning for the placement year will also take place to prepare you for the future ahead.In Year 3 (Year 4 if you started in the Foundation Entry) you can choose to undertake a 48-week placement. Our dedicated placement team work with you to find you a placement opportunity that is relevant to your career aspirations. Our students take up a range of opportunities and have worked in four and five star hotels in China, USA and New Zealand, and the family entertainment resorts of Orlando Florida. You can also work throughout the UK for appropriate hospitality placements and we will support you in using them effectively through your search, application process and implementation of suitable options.<br><br>Graduates of the course are pursuing careers throughout the international hospitality industry. Many are working for large international organisations, whilst a significant number have chosen to work more locally in the UK hotel industry. You can aspire to working in cruise ships, nightclubs, casinos, major hotel chains and restaurant groups. We also have a number of students going into operations roles whilst others specialise in Human Resource or Marketing.<br><br>The optional 48-week work placement in the third year (Year 4 if you started on the Foundation Entry) ensures that graduates have a good level of work experience once they graduate. You can also choose to work abroad on an international placement if you so wish, students in previous years have worked for Disney and selected hospitality management establishments including Marriott Texas, Hilton hotels London, Fairmont Hotels Dubai. Some have even run their own hospitality venue (Rivington Barn). There is also an opportunity to participate in local, national and international field visits. We currently have students on placement at Ritz Carlton KL, St Regis Abu Dhabi, H10 Hotels Lanzarote, Swire Hotels HK. Holiday Inn Local, Langham Shanghai and Hilton Manchester/Birmingham.<br><br>Throughout the course we work closely with local hospitality providers including: Northcote, Marriott, James Place, The Villa Group, Stanley House, English Lakes Hotels, Squire Hotels, Ribby Hall, Marketing Lancashire as well as other venues and attractions to promote industry links and provide networking opportunities through your degree.
