课程简介
The Department of Dance houses an internationally recognised Centre for Dance Research (CDR) which, established fifteen years ago, is now a meeting ground for scholars and students from all over the world. The Centre is an umbrella for a wide range of research projects in historical, analytical, anthropological and cultural studies and professional practice as research. This research theme investigates dance as a cultural practice that embodies values and relations of powers using anthropological and political research, challenging the Eurocentrism of dance studies and broadening its focus to include popular, folk, social and ritual practices as well as theatre dance.
A PhD is for students who wish to devise an independent research project which will result in an original contribution to knowledge in the subject area. Students can study on a full-time or a part-time basis and programmes begin in October and January.
You will be expected to have formulated an outline research proposal only at the application stage. You will spend the first months of your course developing your proposal under the guidance of your supervisory team.
The Centre for Research in Arts and Creative Exchange (CRACE) aims to interrogate what arts research is and can be in the current climate, and to lead, invent and innovate on how research is conducted.

The Centre is based on inclusivity, collaboration and enabling. Drawing on established research strengths across dance, performance, digital media, still and moving images, curatorial practice, transmediation and adaptation, genders and sexualities and diversity and international arts and culture, this is not a project of homogenisation. Rather, it will be an ongoing project to create and recreate our diverse ways of working. We are engaged in work that is transformational and future facing, multidisciplinary, and underpinned by a commitment to social and political change.
