The Bachelor of Digital Media and Communication is a program designed to foster a strategic and critical understanding of mediated communication's role in society, particularly in the context of the internet and digital media's evolving dynamics. The course emphasizes the integral nature of communication processes to human society and culture, examining milestones such as the advent of writing, printing, the 19th-century industrial developments, and the recent emergence of information technology. These media technologies have significantly influenced social, political, cultural, and economic spheres throughout history. In the 21st century, their impact continues to expand, shaping interpersonal communication, professional practices, global networks, and driving new industrial and economic progress. This specialized program focuses on understanding digital media's role within society and equips students for professional environments where digital media content production and distribution are central. Instruction is divided into two strands: the digital media production and web design units introduce foundational skills in image and video production, editing, website and social media design, and website analytics; while the digital society units delve into internet studies and digital screen content analysis. These strands converge in a capstone unit, where students reflect on the societal role of digital technologies and collaboratively develop an online platform to raise awareness of social, cultural, or political issues associated with digital media and the internet. The course also examines media functions, aiming to develop skills in describing and analyzing the organization, processes, applications, and effects of traditional and modern communication technologies. Areas of study include print, television, film, electronic, and digital media, as well as the intricate relationships among audiences, producers, and policymakers. Additionally, students gain critical analysis skills, learning to explore media, communication industry structures, and the interconnectedness of media, culture, and power within both global and local contexts.
