The Foundation year prepares students for university level study. Successful completion of our Foundation course permits access to any of our Media or Humanities BA (Hons) degree courses, which include Public Relations, Media and Film and Television Studies- many of which can be taken singly as specialist degrees or together as ‘joint' degree routes. The Foundation year begins with modules aimed at providing transferable study skills and then, in the second semester, gives students the opportunity to study more specialist modules, with a focus on various aspects of Media and Humanities.<br><br>Media, in all their variety, play an increasingly significant role in all aspects of our personal, social and professional lives. Understanding the media enables us not only to understand ourselves, our culture and the societies in which we live, but also helps us to understand the many opportunities that exist for employment in the creative and communication industries. The media landscape evolves rapidly, and this makes the study of what we do with our phones, tablets and other devices an exciting and constantly developing field.<br><br>Students will develop a range of research and analytical skills that are required not only in the creative and media industries, but also more generally contribute to their employability prospects in the public and private sectors. Graduates in Media have taken up a wide variety of careers including: working in radio, television, journalism and marketing, as well as various management and communication roles in retail, business and local government. The degree in Media provides an excellent foundation for continuing studies at a post-graduate level, such as our own MA in Contemporary Media.
