The focus of postgraduate study in Design and Applied Arts is to consider your current and past practice and recognise the opportunities that exist for research, material investigation and professional development. The aim is to provide a framework that will guide your enquiry within your subject specialism.This module aims to provide you with a structure for defining your personal creative aspiration through reflective and evaluative practice. You will integrate rigorous academic research with an independent creative practice. You will be encouraged to examine the direction of your academic enquiry and explore unfamiliar forms of creative expression in the wider context of social, historical and theoretical discourse. You will review your prior learning to date and through research, enquiry and practical testing you will arrive at an understanding of your strengths as a designer or practitioner in a defined area of specialism within the following options of Design and Applied Arts:- Glass, Ceramics, Interior Design, Product Design, Fashion, Textiles. The aim of the module is to allow for an initial period of self-reflection, exploration and investigative via theoretical research and creative practice to reach a position of understanding and informed knowledge for study at post-graduate level. The module aims to provide a focus for primary areas of investigation: Creative and theoretical enquiry Materials and Process Academic and/or professional context.<br><br>This module will provide an opportunity for you to fully develop the professional skills required to present your work to external audiences and to engage with the professional sphere. The module aims to resource you with the skill set required to manage yourself as a practitioner in your own field and is designed specifically to provide training in this area that you may not have gained at undergraduate level or as part of your previous experience. It will provide you with the opportunity to gain studio based or industrial experience in an area related to your own practice and will present the learning required to establish your own business and/or prepare you for work within small and medium sized arts enterprises. It will introduce the managerial and administrative skills that are essential for you to succeed in a professional environment. You will research and identify funding systems and policies appropriate to your own discipline, develop marketing strategies and consolidate your skills in self-management. You will be encouraged to self-negotiate a placement or live project of your own choice. This can include as an example, a portfolio review, writing a teaching programme, designing and developing workshops and master classes, planning a public exhibition or delivery of practice in any other professional context. Students will be encouraged to collaborate/negotiate with professionals to gain industrial experience.
