What you will study: On our LLB Law course, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the main areas of legal knowledge, including law as it regulates The functions of the state (public law and criminal law)Relations between private individuals (contract law and tort law)The ownership and control of land and other property (land law, and equity and trusts). In addition to these core subjects, after the first year you will have the option to study a range of topics with experts in their fields, including environmental law, international humanitarian law, medical law, and tax law, among many others. All second-year law students are enrolled on a Professional Training Preparation module which enables you to develop key employability skills, complete a law-specific version of the University's Employability Award and hear from a wide variety of voices from practice (both legal and non-legal). You will learn how to debate the law, to analyse its application to given situations and to apply your legal understanding in a national or international context. Further opportunities to develop your professional skills are provided through a series of extracurricular activities focusing on client interviewing, negotiation and mooting. Professional recognitionLLB (Hons) - Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) The qualifying law degree is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for the purposes of satisfying the academic stage of training.Widening access to lawWe support students from a diverse range of backgrounds and work in partnership with organisations to improve access to, and diversity within, the legal profession. This includes supporting students with successful applications for scholarships and mentoring opportunities, such as the Jules Thorn Bar Scholarship from Middle Temple and the Freshfields Stephen Lawrence Scholarship. Foundation yearIf you don’t meet our entry requirements, you might still be able to apply for this degree with a Social Sciences Foundation Year. This is an extra year of study to develop your skills and make it easier for you to get started at university. On successful completion of your foundation year, you’ll be ready to progress to the first year of your degree.
