Normally a first-class or upper second-class Honours degree in social policy, sociology or criminology or a relevant social science, or the successful completion of an appropriate postgraduate programme is required. Students need to have an IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band; TOEFL: 88 overall with no less than 21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking and 21 in Writing.

Course overview<br>We offer two types of research degree: an MPhil or a PhD – in any of the disciplines represented in our department, including social policy, criminology and sociology.Course structure<br>The PhD course will run over 3 years in a full-time mode and 6 years in a part-time mode. The MPhil course will run over 2 years in a full-time mode and 4 years in a part-time mode.For home students, a research degree programme may be undertaken either by full-time or part-time study or via distance learning. International students can only undertake the programme full-time studies or by distance learning.Course highlights<br>In the School of Social Policy and Society, we offer much more than a degree.
