Looking to build on your existing professional skills or seeking a new career pathway Whether you are looking to practice as a professional Counsellor or to simply expand your ability to communicate, problem solve and support others, our Diploma of Counselling equips students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in this growing and important service delivery area. Counsellors will provide therapy, advice, advocacy and support to their clients. They assist clients to establish and achieve goals that are intended to improve their quality of life. Typically, counsellors will work collaboratively with other professionals, such as psychologists, social workers and other health practitioners, to manage their clients' emotional, physical and mental health and wellbeing. The Diploma of Counselling offers graduates a variety of employment opportunities within the health, human and community services sectors. Counselling professionals are typically employed in a range of settings including outreach services. hospitals, shelters, community service providers, educational institutions, prisons and long term residential facilities. Direct entry into the Diploma is available to eligible applicants, or students might choose to study the Certificate IV in Community Services or the Certificate IV in Mental Health before commencing this Diploma program. Pathways into counselling as a career include vocational training and tertiary qualifications. Students who complete this qualification may be eligible for entry into higher education programs in areas such as Social Work, Human Services, Community Welfare and Applied Public Health. VET Pathways include Advanced Diploma in Community Sector Management.
