Social workers play a vital role in supporting individuals navigating complex challenges related to financial hardship, health issues, mental wellbeing, or personal relationships. The Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) at Southern Cross University equips students with the skills, knowledge, and ethical foundation to become strategic, reflective, and professional social work practitioners.This accredited postgraduate program is designed for applicants with a background in social sciences, psychology, social welfare, or related disciplines. The curriculum covers key areas including child protection, social policy and law, mental health, Indigenous health, and leadership in social work organisations.Students engage in supervised professional placements, gaining real-world experience under the guidance of qualified social work professionals. Upon graduation, students are prepared for careers as qualified social workers in Australia, and may also be eligible for international employment opportunities.On-campus participation is required for all students—including online learners—with a minimum of 20 days (150 hours) of in-person learning throughout the course. This is in accordance with the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS) and is fulfilled through compulsory residential schools at the Gold Coast campus.
