Through study of the material remains of the past, archaeologists search out and excavate ancient sites and examine artefacts and biological remains to understand how cultures developed and changed through the ages. Combining core conceptual knowledge in archaeology with applied practical techniques, taught in our nation-leading lab, archaeology students at UQ can take part in leading international research projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Africa and India. The Major in Archaeology provides a strong knowledge of contemporary archaeology to study alongside other areas such as anthropology and ancient history.
