This course is intended for those with bachelor or honours degree interested in the issues of social justice and sustainable development. Some work experience after completing bachelor/honours degree would be an advantage. In particular, this course is highly relevant for those already working on the issue of international development intended to advance their career in the field. The course will develop student mastery in the theories, inter-linkages and strategies within the field of Development, Security and Sustainability with a clear practical orientation. These are integral to a critical understanding and analysis of the current world order and threats from climate change, global demands for resources, uneven economic growth and sustainability. The specialisation takes a particular focus in the analysis of these issues within the South and East Asian Regions (including Australia) and the Pacific. Economically Australia has become tied to the South and East Asia regions, and increasingly this is translating to social and political engagement within these regions and within the Pacific. This specialisation will enable both local and international students to engage in analysis of the political, social and economic challenges in these regions and the critical significance of development security and sustainability to all our futures.
