课程简介
Egyptology covers the study of Ancient Egyptian language, literature, and culture. You may explore Egyptian art and architecture, Ancient Egyptian history and civilisation, archaeology, religion, gender, and the Ancient Egyptian writing systems. We are one of the few UK universities where you can study these topics at undergraduate level. All Egyptology students have the chance to interact directly with artefacts in the Egypt Centre. A work placement module, known as the Ancient Egyptian Collection Practicum, is available as part of your degree. There is a burgeoning volunteering programme operating via the Egypt Centre, whereby you can serve as a gallery or educational assistant, and train to become an educational leader. We strongly encourage you to support the museum's mission by getting involved in the collection's preservation, educating students via the schools programme, and widening participation. Your teaching is enhanced also by our world-leading research, with our staff engaged in projects related to the archaeology, religion, and history of Ancient Egypt. You will be able to attend seminars organised through our guest speaker programmes, run by the Friends of the Egypt Centre and InEPWW. The Egypt Centre recently (September 2018) hosted the first ever annual meeting of the International Committee for Egyptology (CIPEG) to be held in the UK. During your Egyptology degree, in our close-knit community, you will each have an academic mentor from among the department teaching staff to lend pastoral and academic support. The Egyptology Society, in tandem with the separate Society for Ancient Studies, organises social and cultural events, including museum trips.

Students on this course typically develop excellent abilities in uncovering, marshalling, and presenting evidence. Your analytical and problem-solving acumen will be enhanced. And you'll garner knowledge not only of a fascinating and remote period of history, but also of how to preserve, treat, and display the objects that have survived from it. Such skills will be deeply attractive to employers from a vast array of professions. Our graduates enter careers in a wide range of sectors including: Education, Archives, Museology and heritage, Business, Media and public relations and Public service.
