The MLitt is an alternative to the PhD if you already have a masters degree and want to complete a substantial research project. You can complete an MLitt in most subjects offered by the Faculty of Arts, subject to approval and availability of supervision. You can further your research interests in the same subject as your first masters degree, or undertake research in a new area. An MLitt could be useful for a range of academic or professional careers, especially if you don’t want to undertake doctoral study. Postgraduate study in History allows you to extend your skills and pursue specialised areas of historical research to suit your interests. You are encouraged to become familiar with current debates on the nature of history and with the major theoretical developments which have influenced the field in the past 20 years.
