Dive into the histories and artworks of cultures past and present, across a range of global contexts. With a degree in History and History of Art, you'll gain the practical and theoretical skills you need to launch your career in the arts, cultural and heritage sectors and beyond. Gain the skills to analyse your favourite artworks (and discover new favourites) in their original historical contexts. In this flexible degree, you'll pursue your interests in History and Art History as you develop the ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information. Central to your learning will be access to original artworks, texts and archives. Attend seminars and events at our art gallery on campus which houses works by famous artists such as; Van Gogh, Monet, Turner, Magritte and Kollwitz. Get practical arts experience with our Inside the Gallery and Professional Skills modules - learn how to curate an exhibition and engage with Birmingham city's lively scene bursting with artistic venues and opportunities. Get involved with our active Art History department - publish exhibition reviews on our official blog, the Golovine, and join our student society, HartSoc. Develop your interest in two complementary areas and gain key transferable skills including textual and visual analysis. Explore how the past informs the present and gain a global historical understanding from the Middle Ages to the present. You’ll be assessed in different ways to suit each module. At the start of a module, you’ll be told how and when you’ll be assessed. Methods will vary but may include coursework (e.g., essays), group or individual presentations and projects, exams, reports or computer-based assignments.
