The combination of English and History uniquely positions you to be able to interrogate a variety of literary texts (including film, theatre, poetry and prose) and place them within their historical, social and political contexts. Both departments offer modules that explore literary and historical cultures from the medieval period up until the contemporary moment. This course is available with either an English Literature or an English Language pathway.<br>To understand how English literature and language have changed, developed and influenced cultures, you need to understand the historical context.
