On this course you will explore global human rights issues and examine how they can be enforced and defended. The curriculum is organised into three broad streams: the history of human rights, understanding human rights, and achieving human rights. With an emphasis on active citizenship embedded into our programme we will encourage you to make a contribution to political life in your communities and to become an active participant in a democratic society. You will participate in annual events such as our Human Rights Festival and have access to our Centre for Human Rights Practice, where you can engage with current issues as a researcher, activist, campaigner and blogger, under the supervision of human rights and social justice specialists at the centre. The Foundation year in Social Sciences takes place the year before your degree. It will provide you with a solid grounding of knowledge and study skills in preparation for your degree. You will study four year-long modules that cover all subject areas that make up the social and behavioural sciences. The subjects covered on this course are criminology, sociology, psychology, economics and politics. You will develop a foundation knowledge of these subjects and begin to explore the boundaries and overlap between these inter-related disciplines.
