This course, part of a suite of courses in the field of forensic psychology at Coventry University, which also includes MSc Forensic Psychology, and MSc Forensic Psychology and Mental Health, is designed to provide you with a thorough grounding in the theory, themes, issues and practical skills we consider to be central to forensic psychology and offender rehabilitation settings. In 2018, the prison population in England and Wales was over 83,000, with the UK having the highest imprisoning rate per head of population in Western Europe (House of Commons Briefing paper, July 2018). Further, according to statistics published by the Ministry of Justice in January 2019, between January 2017 to March 2017 adults released from a custodial sentence  of less than 12 months had a proven reoffending rate of 64%. Therefore, we consider the treatment and rehabilitation of offenders to be an important issue not only for the offenders themselves, but also their families and society at large. The course has been designed to cover the British Psychological Society's Division of Forensic Psychology's (''DFP'') core curriculum, which includes foundational topics such as the theoretical basis of forensic psychology across a range of settings and risk assessment, as well as a more specialised focus on offender rehabilitation.
