This course is run in partnership with the School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) at City University in Hong Kong. At our Preston campus in the UK, we only offer this course as a top up/direct entry, allowing students to study Year 3 only.Get ready for an international future, with communication skills, business knowledge and practical experience – all spanning English and a language of your choice.In today's global economy, businesses engage consumers, clients and suppliers across continents and beyond borders. This course is designed to give you the ability to play a vital role in that process, with professional communication skills in two languages. It's a degree that goes beyond the mechanics of language, looking at the intercultural context of corporate communications – offering a competitive edge for a wide range of communication-oriented careers.While the course is built around a strong core of corporate communication and language skills, you'll also have the flexibility to set your own direction in a range of business areas. With the variety of option units on offer, you could set your sights on disciplines like Human Resources, Marketing or Public Relations, or gain an in-depth knowledge of the region in which your chose language is spoken – from Latin America to Asia Pacific.Above all, this is a practical course, offering valuable skills and real experience. Placements offer the chance to develop vital project management and research skills, while you'll also have the chance to go on to subsidised field trips to destinations like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Spain, Germany and Cyprus.<br>Challenging, but rewarding, Japanese is one of the most studied languages. Japanese language skills enable you to dive into a society in which tradition meets modernity. You will learn how to write in three different scripts and experience the beauty of the spoken language. But learning Japanese is not just about learning a language, but rather experiencing a culture with a rich history and world-famous literary tradition.<br><br>You'll learn how to communicate efficiently in written and spoken Japanese with an appropriate degree of fluency and accuracy in a range of situations. Get to grips with translating/interpreting between English and Japanese texts/speeches of a varied nature in a number of registers and genres. You'll get to demonstrate your language skills through interactive portfolios, presentations and creative writing.<br><br>You'll also get the opportunity to take part in lectures given by staff and guest speakers representing major disciplines in the sphere of Japanese Studies. You are encouraged to get actively involved in Japan-related events and student-led associations. Working with your peers you'll practise your Japanese skills with native speakers, including exchange students at the University.
