Standard entry requirement
The standard entry requirement is:
SQA Highers: AAAA-AABB by end of S5 or AAAA-AAAB by end of S6. BBB must be achieved in one year of S4-S6.
A Levels: AAB - ABB.
IB: 36 points with 665 at HL - 34 points with 655 at HL.
Minimum entry requirement
The minimum entry requirement for widening access applicants is:
SQA Highers: ABBB by end of S6. BBB must be achieved in one year of S4-S6.
A Levels: ABB.
IB: 34 points with 655 at HL.
IELTS Academic module overall 6.5 with 5.5 in each component.
TOEFL-iBT (including Special Home Edition) 92 or above with 20 in each section. We do not accept TOEFL MyBest Score to meet our English language requirements.

Across all four years of our programme, including a year abroad, your studies will give you the chance to gain professional skills in all aspects of German, including:<br><br>reading and listening<br>writing and translating<br>speaking and presenting <br>As well as language learning, you will also explore German-language literature, film and theatre. You will study these in the context of historical and political developments, from the eighteenth century to contemporary times.<br><br>You will begin to understand how German speakers interpret the world through their language and historical context. Courses explore political issues such as:<br><br>the legacy of the Holocaust<br>migration<br>minority cultures<br>On joining us, complete beginners take our German 1A course, students with prior experience of learning the language typically take German 1B.<br><br>By your final year, you will have developed the linguistic, critical and analytical skills to the standard of completing a dissertation or long essay.<br><br>Politics studies the theory and practice of how societies are governed. How do our political institutions create collective rules, who has the power to make them, and what are the consequences of political decisions What is the nature of a just society, and how do we get there<br><br>Drawing on the expertise of leading academics and researchers in the field, you will explore the origins and present-day contexts of societal conflicts about power, participation, and resources. You will not only study the processes of governance at the local, national, and international levels, but also the morality of political action, and the limits of freedom and justice.<br><br>Combining a language with politics demonstrates that you are a good communicator, and someone open to other cultures and new ideas what employers value as Intercultural Competence.<br><br>Beyond the language skills you will develop, you will also gain a nuanced understanding of other cultures, political systems and societies.<br><br>Graduating with a four-year Master of Arts degree from the University of Edinburgh shows intellectual maturity, resilience, and flexibility.<br><br>The skills you will be able to demonstrate to employers when you graduate include the ability to:<br><br>understand, analyse and articulate complex issues and concepts<br>manage your time to meet deadlines on different types of project<br>work independently and as part of a group
