The course combines intensive language training with rigorous academic study. We teach in German on several of our modules, which cover literature, culture, history, philosophy, politics, language theory and usage in German-speaking countries. Specialist options include Dutch and Luxembourgish. About a third of your time each year is devoted to learning Japanese. We teach the language from scratch, covering basic speaking, reading, writing and listening. In the first year you'll begin advanced practice in spoken and written German. You will also study contemporary German society and its history, and phases of German literature. In the second year your language training moves up a gear. Option modules include topics from linguistics, literature, society and politics, history, philosophy and film studies. 4-year course, Full time Year abroad.
