Admission to candidature in any Master of Philosophy program may be approved by the Head of School or delegate (for example Higher Degree Research (HDR) Coordinator) under the oversight of the Associate Dean Research (ADR) when the School:
(a) has certified it has the necessary facilities and appropriate support for the applicant undertaking the proposed Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program, and
(b) has nominated an appropriate Principal Supervisor and Co-supervisor(s) in accordance with Rule 5.
The Head of School or delegate (for example HDR Coordinator) under the oversight of the ADR may admit to candidature in a MPhil program an applicant who:
(a) has a degree of Bachelor with at least second-class Honours (AQF Level 8) or equivalent in an appropriate field of study, or
(b) has a degree at AQF Level 7 or equivalent and has adequate relevant preparation since graduation. Adequate relevant preparation may be gained by an approved academic course, professional training, during an occupation or through peer reviewed publications, and
(c) has completed and had approved by the relevant School officers an MPhil research proposal.

English Language Requirements-
Satisfactory completion, within five years of the date of application for admission to UNE, of at least one year of full-time or equivalent full-time study at senior secondary, post-secondary or tertiary level in a country in which English is the primary official language or co-official language and in which English was the sole medium of instruction and assessment for the particular period of study claimed, or
A pass grade or better in an English language subject at Australian Year 12 level or overseas equivalent, or
An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic overall score of at least 6.0 with no sub-band less than 5.5*, or
Equivalent Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 213 in the computer-based test or at least 79 in the internet-based test with no less than 22 in the written component
