Applicants should have an above average academic record at least equivalent to a B average 2.60 out of 4.00 or be in the top 60 percent of their class with suitable academic preparation for the intended major.
The SAT Scholastic Aptitude Test while not required is encouraged and strongly recommended for freshman applicants Students who graduated from US high schools must submit an SAT score.
Academic Transcripts need to be originals or official certified true copies If your transcripts are not in English certified true translations must be attached All upper secondary school-level work needs to be demonstrated through your transcripts It is common for applicants to submit transcripts prior to the completion of their final year of secondary school If you must submit transcripts prior to completion please indicate your expected graduation date.
All applicants who are not native speakers of English must demonstrate proficiency in English with one of the following exams and the indicated minimum score.

The School of Design offers a professional B.F.A. (Bachelors of Fine Art) in Studio Art with a specialization in Art Education. This degree is comprised of art and design studio experiences, art history lecture courses and the teacher education sequence of courses. Students study a variety of art-making methods and techniques, as well as meeting the requirements for South Dakota teacher certification.<br><br>Areas of study include: foundational design concepts, basic to advanced drawing skills, courses in computer graphics and photography, creative thinking, painting with several different media, contemporary and traditional approaches to printmaking and letterpress, 3D design, hand-built and wheel-thrown ceramics, various sculptural process, sculptural welding and metalwork, professional practice, art history, internships and travel study, in addition to courses in education to prepare students for the classroom environment.<br><br>Students complete 65 credits in studio art and design-related studies, 30 credits in teacher education, along with 35 credits of institutional requirements and additional electives to reach 128 credits needed for graduation.
