Our BFA program provides training in many different materials and processes for making three-dimensional work. We offer an immersive art experience that combines a small studio environment with the resources of a major research university. We encourage experimental approaches to art-making including mixed media, mold making, installation, environmental and community-based work. You'll have the opportunity to participate each year in group metal pours, learning the technical and safety requirements to successfully cast in bronze and aluminum. The BFA in Sculpture provides a thorough introduction to many different materials and processes and is structured to enhance the your ability to solve structural, spatial, formal and conceptual problems. Initially, you will concentrate on basic construction techniques and craftsmanship and then explore various tools and techniques used in the wood and metal shops. Large-scale works are encouraged and may be exhibited on the grounds of the Creative Arts Center. Our graduates go on to portfolio careers, private studios, artist residencies/internships and graduate school for the MFA in Sculpture. Sculpture students have been accepted into highly-respected graduate programs throughout the country, including Alfred University, the University of Florida, and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Other graduates have found employment as fabricators and art handlers.
