The MFA program in fibers fosters individual studio research, leads to a mature body of artwork, and promotes professional involvement in the fields of contemporary art and design. As a terminal-degree program for studio arts, the MFA curriculum promotes a high level of studio performance and scholastic research about cloth in visual and material culture. In addition to work in fiber media and materials, the curriculum includes studio electives, art-history coursework, graduate seminars, and non-art electives. Study abroad and internship opportunities are available. Graduate students share semiprivate studio space near the undergraduate fibers studio and area library, and near the department's woodshop, digitial-fabrication studio, and computer lab. CSU alumni exhibit their work nationally and internationally, teach at public schools, colleges, and universities, and lead workshop programs throughout the US. Our alumni also jury and curate exhibitions, work as designers, and write for national publications. The first MFA in fibers at CSU was conferred in 1987.
