The Department's minimum admission requirements for the MA degree are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework. The required application documents are:
Official transcripts from all universities attended. International applicants must provide an official, original language copy of their transcript (with an accompanying official English translation), as well as an original language copy of their degree certificate (with an accompanying English translation).

A recent writing sample on a drama-related topic
Research proposal in pdf (not binding, students may change their research focus in the course of their program)
3 letters of recommendation.
TOEFL iBT, in-person or special at-home edition - Total score of 90 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based) or equivalent. IELTS - 6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band. Canadian Academic English Language Assessment - Overall 70 with at least 60 on each subtest.

We endeavour to foster in students a unique combination of practical and critical skills, with an adventurous, visionary attitude. Students are stimulated to examine the nature of theatre itself - its form and content. Our goal is to challenge our students to think independently, to develop their innate qualities of resourcefulness, innovation and imagination.<br><br>We value leadership. Our graduate students assume key leadership roles on the creative teams which plan and realize the many productions presented in the department and are well prepared to take on leadership roles when they graduate.<br><br>Our department features live performance as the site of interaction and integration of all aspects of the discipline of theatre, all graduate students participate in this culture of research and creative activity. A lively interplay between programs enriches the student experience beyond the scope of any one program.<br><br>Trains students to work as professional theatre directors through extensive practical work in a range of venues and styles.
