Portfolio: Approval by the area graduate committee of the applicant's creative work as specified below:
Graphic Design: 20-30 images in a powerpoint presentation, of original and/or printed works. Submission of original work may be requested.
Ceramics, Painting, Printmaking/ Photography, and Sculpture: 20-30 images in a powerpoint presentation, of work mainly in the applicant's concentration area plus some slides of drawings and optional other media. Include additional views of 3D pieces. Submission of original work might be requested.
Letters of recommendation: Letters from two persons familiar with the applicant's creative activity but who are not members of the area graduate committee. If applying for a teaching assistantship, each recommendation should contain reference to the applicant's teaching ability. Graphic design applicants are required to submit two letters of reference.
Statement: A brief, personal statement of professional ambitions, intended concentration area, other special creative interests, and outline of previous professional experience. Please include current and permanent e-mail address, mailing address, and phone numbers.
Admission to the Graduate School is open to anyone holding a bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university. In cases, where a program's accrediting body allows alternate admissions standards, exceptions may be made. Applicants should have completed undergraduate or graduate work of sufficient quality and scope to enable them to successfully pursue graduate study. Baccalaureate Degree: The applicant must provide an official transcript showing that a bachelor's degree was awarded by an accredited college or university. If you are a UofM undergraduate student applying to Graduate School at UofM, you do not need to request that an official transcript be sent to Graduate Admissions. This office has access to your transcript. In addition, transcripts from any other college or university attended may be requested. Only transcripts received directly from an issuing institution are considered official. Personal copies are not acceptable as official documents.
GPA: The applicant must have earned an acceptable grade point average, typically a minimum of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0, but departments may make exceptions for students whose overall GPA does not adequately reflect their ability to succeed in their chosen field.
English proficiency test scores required by the University:
Duolingo English Test- For students affected by test center closures due to COVID-19, the University is temporarily accepting Duolingo as an alternative. 100 or higher on the overall score, all sub scores must be at least 80.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Institution code 1459. TOEFL - 550 or higher on the paper version, 79 or higher on the internet-based test
IELTS (International English Language Testing System- 6.0 or higher
PTE (Pearson Test of English) - 53 or higher

In the printmaking and photography concentration, students focus on advancing their technical skills, conceptual understanding, and creative expression within the fields of photography and printmaking. The program offers a unique combination of both media, allowing students to explore the intersections, connections, and potential synergies between printmaking and photography.<br>Technical proficiency is a central aspect of the program. Students refine their knowledge and skills in photography techniques such as camera operation, lighting, composition, and post-processing. They also delve into advanced printmaking techniques including etching, lithography, screenprinting, or digital printmaking methods. By mastering the technical aspects of both media, students can expand their creative possibilities and effectively communicate their artistic ideas.<br>Conceptual development and artistic exploration are equally emphasized. Students are encouraged to develop a strong conceptual framework and articulate their artistic vision within printmaking and photography. They explore various themes, narratives, and aesthetic concepts, considering how each medium can contribute to their expressive intent. They engage in critical analysis and develop a cohesive body of work that demonstrates a deep understanding of the relationship between printmaking and photography.<br><br>The program incorporates interdisciplinary approaches, allowing students to integrate printmaking and photography with other media or artistic practices.
