The successful applicant to a master's program typically has a GPA of at least 3.0 in undergraduate work. It is expected that a student entering a graduate program has successfully completed certain courses prior to their graduate work. The successful graduate student may be asked to level in courses they have not taken.
An interview may be scheduled after application and prior to admission.
Applicants will not be evaluated until all of the requirements below have been submitted in the application. The Graduate School will notify applicants when their applications are complete, have been referred to the School of Theatre and Dance for consideration, and when an admissions decision has been made.

3 letters of recommendation, preferable from sources in the area of theatre
Current resume
A writing sample (a minimum of 750 words), preferable about an aspect of theatre. PHD applicants: submit 10-30 pages of your best research or academic writing.
Statement of purpose for graduate studies
TOEFL - The minimum TOEFL score required is 550 (paper-based version) or 79 (internet-based version).
IELTS - The minimum IELTS required score is an overall band score of 6.5 on the Academic version

The Master of Fine Arts in Performance & Pedagogy is a terminal professional degree designed to prepare students for work in professional theatre and academia. This program champions training and education in a breadth of specialized courses and prepares students for careers in both practice and pedagogy. A written thesis or thesis project is required and based on a performance or production project accomplished during the MFA program. The School of Theatre & Dance participates with the faculties in art, music, and philosophy in an interdisciplinary program leading to the Doctor of Philosophy with a major in Fine Arts. Students engage a core curriculum of 15 hours that emphasizes interdisciplinarity among the arts. Work within the disciplinary track of theatre involves required coursework along with an individualized curriculum that allows the candidate to pursue a professional goal relating to personal interests and competencies. The program requires 60 hours of coursework beyond the master's degree, distributed among Fine Arts core courses, Theatre Arts courses, and dissertation hours.
