A specialization in Arts Management at WMU is pursued through the Theatre Studies degree and demands general knowledge of all areas of theatre with emphasis in business, non-profit leadership, development, marketing & communications, ticket office management, and front of house services. The program is designed to provide its students with practical experience managing and producing theatre within the department's production season. Students are on the front lines of all venue management and they assist in every other aspect of The University Theatre operation. Students get hands on experience in communications, marketing, social media management, fundraising, database management, house management and box office while working in this program. The office uses Tessitura as its Customer Relationship Management software (CRM). Tessitura is one of the leading CRM systems used by the largest arts organizations - this experience sets our students up for extensive work opportunities post graduation. Students in this program must fulfill the University's general education requirements as well as requirements within the Theatre Studies Curriculum, ensuring a solid base of knowledge in the fundamentals of theatre. Outside of these requirements, this major consists of a selection of electives. These electives are chosen with guidance from the Director of Arts Management in Theatre and are based on career focus within the field and personal strengths and interests.
