Arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted via the online Jacobs School of Music Graduate Application. Submit official academic records in the original language from every postsecondary school you have attended, whether or not you obtained a degree. If the original document is not in English, also provide an official, exact (literal) English translation. Records must be issued by the registrar or record-keeping official from the institution at which the work was completed. Notarized copies of academic records are not acceptable. The minimum TOEFL result required for the bachelor's and master's degree program are a paper-based score of 560, a computer-based minimum of 223, and an internet-based minimum of 84.

The MS in music education is designed for graduates of Bachelor's degree programs in an area of music other than music education. It provides a foundation of understanding the principles and processes of both teaching and learning music while supplementing previous study with those competencies necessary for teaching certification. This degree leads to Indiana state music teaching certification K-12 in instrumental teaching - band, choral teaching, general music teaching, or instrumental teaching - string. The minimum requirement for a master's degree is 30 credit hours, excluding required credit hours in prerequisite or review courses, tool subjects, and major ensemble. Individual degrees may require more credit hours.
