At UTSA, a music degree provides a firm foundation to nurture your creative calling. You'll be able to choose a concentration in any of the following: Music Studies, Music Composition, Music Performance or Music Marketing. Concentrations are declared after you've been admitted and have met with your academic advisor. A degree in Music from UTSA provides a rich and fulfilling contribution to the greater community and is a nationally recognized program accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. You'll follow down the footsteps of many of today's greatest musicians as you pursue a career as a performing artist, sound engineer, composer, music educator, or as a music marketing professional. The principal instrument for those whose student teaching will be in band must be a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument(s), for instance, traditional percussion instruments as found in a band or orchestra-timpani, mallet instruments, multi-percussion, but not drum set. The principal instrument for those whose student teaching will be in string classes or orchestra must be violin, viola, cello, string bass (not electric bass), classical guitar, or piano.
