To be considered for admission to Washington State University as a freshman, a student needs to complete at least 12 years of school, culminating in an appropriate secondary certificate or external examination. (We may consider the first year or two of university in some countries to be secondary level.) Schooling should include preparation in humanities, mathematics, basic sciences, and social sciences. WSU requires a minimum grade point average of 2.70 (on a 4.00 scale) for admission as an international freshman. TOEFL: 213 computer-based (CBT), 79 internet-based (iBT), 550 paper-based (PBT). IELTS: 6.5. SAT: 500 Critical Reading Sub Score

People around the world use music to celebrate, commemorate, communicate, worship, and share their deepest emotions-to express what words cannot. Students who major in music can focus on the art of performing, the history of music, music technology, the role of music in culture, and methods of teaching music. Learn from acclaimed faculty. The music faculty at WSU includes Fulbright Scholars and national award winners, including the American Prize in Composition and nomination for the Pulitzer Prize. Faculty members have extensive and varied professional experience as teachers, composers, and performers, they participate in international performances and collaborations in Europe and Asia, they lead national, regional, and state music organizations, and they have won multiple WSU awards for excellence in teaching.<br> <br> The music education program offers options that lead to Washington state teaching certification in general music, instrumental music, and choral music. There is also a teaching option for students who don't need state certification. To teach music in middle school or high school, you'll need to earn a bachelor's degree in music and complete education course work with the College of Education to earn teacher certification in your chosen area(s) of music.<br><br>To teach music in junior high or high school, you'll need a bachelor's degree in music with teacher certification in the subject. The music education major at WSU integrates teacher certification requirements with the music major so that you can work toward a music degree and teacher certification simultaneously.
