The Jazz Program at San Jos State University's School of Music and Dance offers a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. For students interested in pursuing a career in jazz performance or composition, this degree provides opportunities to learn from some of the most outstanding jazz educators and performers in California.<br>The Keyboard Studies faculty at San Jos State University is composed of internationally renowned performing artist/teachers who nurture and inspire future performing artists, music educators, and scholars at the highest professional levels. At SJSU, a substantial amount of individual instructional attention as well as ample performing opportunities allow students to experience unlimited growth as musicians.<br>All keyboard majors at San Jos State University receive 60-minute applied lessons each week, taught one-on-one by our faculty. Chamber music, collaborative piano, ensemble keyboard, and jazz classes are offered to prepare our pianists for versatile performing careers. In addition, piano majors complete courses in pedagogy, piano literature, and piano technique. Special courses are offered each year such as Beethoven Sonatas and their Performance Practice, which focuses on the original intentions of the composer and offers performance and practice on historic keyboards, and The Complete piano works of Maurice Ravel, which considers Ravel from an historical and cultural perspective.
