TheBachelorofNursing(Level7)isthethree-yeardegreequalificationforthoseintendingtobecomearegisterednurse.Aftercompletingthisdegree,studentssittheNursingCouncilofNewZealandexamtocompletetheirregistration.ThereisahighdemandfornursesboththeWaikato,throughoutNewZealand,andglobally,andtherearestrongjoboutcomesforWintecnursinggraduates.98%ofWintecnursinggraduatesfromNovember2018,arecurrentlyemployedasregisterednurses.ThenursingprogrammesatWintecinvolveacombinationoftheoreticalknowledgeandhands-onlearninginreal-lifehealthcareenvironments.Whilestudying,youwillhavetheopportunitytoprovidenursingcaretohealthconsumers,whānau,andcommunitiesinsupervisedenvironments.Hereyoucanbuildyourknowledgeandskillssothatasagraduate,youcanstepstraightintotheworkforcefeelingconfidentandwork-ready.StudentswhoidentifyasMāoriorPacifichavetheoptiontocompletetheirprogrammewithintheTiheiMauriOraKaupapa(stream).TheTiheiMauriOraKaupapaisfocusedonimprovingMāorihealthoutcomesinthecommunity.ParticipationprovidesstudentswithanincreasedfocusonMāorihealth,customs,andprotocols,aswellasadditionalsupportthroughamanaakimodelofpastoralcare.Thisisachievedthroughtheintegrationofindividualknowledgeandthatofwhānau,hapūandiwi.Tauiraareencouragedtoworktogether(mahitahi)withtheiracademicwhānau(whanaungatanga)toachieveexcellenceinnursingpractice.YouwillbepartofaprogrammewhereyouaresupportedbyseniornursingstudentsandbystaffinawaythatisrepresentativeofMāoriculture.TheTiheiMauriOrakaupapareinforcestheneedtoprotectandlegitimisemātaurangaMāorifrombothtraditionalandcontemporaryworldswithinaprofessionalnursingcontext.
