Use your personal and communication skills to learn how to support people with mental health problems, helping them lead a normal life.Qualify as a registered mental health nurse and develop the expertise to be able to support people with mental illnesses in their homes and specialist health services.As part of this course, you’ll:Spend time at university honing your specialist knowledgePractise your skills in a supported healthcare environment during placementsLearn how to aid the recovery of people with mental health problems, while working alongside those in related health and social care professions, including adult nurses, social workers and dietitiansOccupational Health clearance and compliance with standard NHS immunisations requirements is mandatory and essential for placement attendance. We can offer these in many settings, including services in drug and alcohol, mother and baby, eating disorders and forensics.Teaching & LearningIndependent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.Career ProspectsOn completion of your course, you will be a qualified mental health nurse able to apply for registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. During your studies, you will experience a simulated recruitment process. Your tutors will be on hand to take you through mock interviews and provide tailored feedback. To support your search for employment, we also hold an annual nursing recruitment fair attended by a wide range of organisations, including the armed forces and the Royal College of Nursing.
