Applicants to the Advance Certificate Family Nurse Practitioner must meet the following requirements for admission.

Possess a current New York State Registered Nurse license.
One-year recent experience in a clinical area requiring acute care skills, i.e., family medicine or internal medicine office, community clinics, home care, hospital setting (med/surg or specialty floor) or specialty office practice preferred.
Official copies of your undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts from all college(s) or universities you have attended.
Bachelor and Master degree in Nursing is required.
The three undergraduate mandatory courses are Health Assessment, Nursing Research, and Statistics and must have at least a minimum grade of B to be considered.
Students who have not taken an undergraduate statistics within five years are given the opportunity to take a statistics course during the first semester of the FNP Advanced Certificate program.
International students are also required to achieve a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 79 Internet-based (a minimum listening score of 22 is also required), 225 Computer-based, or 563 Paper-based. IELTS of 6.5 or above is also acceptable.

The 38-credit program is designed to be completed in six semesters (fall, spring, and summer) of part-time study. Registered Nurses who have a Masters in Nursing (not an FNP) are eligible to apply for this program. Graduates of the Advance Certificate FNP program are eligible for a New York State Certificateas a family nurse practitioner and will be eligible for national board certification through the national certifying agencies for advanced practice nursing (American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners).<br><br>Advanced Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner Gerontology offers nurses who already have earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in nursing, the opportunity to increase their expertise in the area of care for adults in a variety of settings including clinics, hospitals and ambulatory care centers. In New York State, the graduate nurse practitioners are autonomous (working in collaborate with a physician, but not supervised by same). (The nurse practitioner does not require collaboration after successfully completing 3600 clinical hours in practice). The Advance Certificate FNP program at LIU Brooklyn is committed to preparing students to this autonomous role.
