Pre-Veterinary Medicine majors will be prepared to pursue admission to colleges of veterinary medicine after completing a curriculum which includes an animal science core (anatomy, nutrition, physiology, health, genetics, and behavior) enhanced with the prerequisite courses (calculus, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, and physics) necessary for admission to colleges of veterinary medicine. Veterinarians are needed to respond to zoonotic diseases, to help care for the 100 million companion animals that are members of our families, and to be part of the care of livestock that will contribute to solving our global food challenge.<br><br>Integrate and apply knowledge of animal sciences with biology, chemistry and math, in and across the core areas of animal science such as physiology, nutrition, genetics, health, behavior and environmental management. Think critically, use quantitative reasoning, skeptical inquiry and the scientific approach to solve problems in the animal sciences, especially as they relate to one health. Effectively communicate animal science, animal health and veterinary issues and perspectives orally and through writing. Demonstrate knowledge of major scientific concepts, social, economic and ethical implications in the animal sciences, especially as they relate to one health, in preparation for post-graduate education in veterinary medicine. Work collaboratively and independently, learning from diverse perspectives to assimilate knowledge and synthesize new solutions and ways of thinking about challenges and issues in the animal sciences, especially as they relate to one health, in preparation for post-graduate education in veterinary medicine.
