To be considered for admissions, the CIS program requires that applicants have the following background:
A master's degree in one of the following fields or a closely related field:
Information and Computer Sciences
Library and Information Science
Business Administration
Communications
Knowledge of computing.
Proficiency in English. If you are not a U.S. citizen and did not receive your Masters' degree from an English speaking institution, then a TOEFL score of at least 100 iBT (600 PBT) is required.
Demonstrated potential for conducting independent research.
Recent GRE or GMAT scores.
Graduate Division Requirements
The Graduate Division has its own requirements in addition to those of the CIS program. These include but are not limited to:
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or an equivalent degree from a recognized non-U.S. institution of higher education.
Above average academic performance, as demonstrated by a B (3.0) average or its equivalent for undergraduate and graduate course work.

A variety of faculty and students are working in the area of health information and technologies. Elizabeth Davidson conducts research on the adoption and diffusion of clinical information systems, such as electronic health records, and on the organizational assimilation of clinical and administrative health systems. CIS students working with her are pursuing health IT studies: Joanne Loos is studying the impact of activity trackers on patient/provider communications in a field experiment. In an action research project, Christina Higa is studying how integrating friends and family with mobile technology and telehealth education can improve health outcomes for individuals with diabetes in underserved communities. Kelly Holden is studying the impact of wellness programs and IT on employee health behavioral change. CIS PhD candidate Weranuj Ariyasriwatana is completing her study of how healthy eating is depicted in online restaurant reviews.
