Nutrition Sciences is the study of food, its components and how the body handles food substances. In this major, you'll explore how nutrients, and the foods from which they are derived, aid the body in growth and development and in maintaining health and wellness. You'll have a chance to see how concepts from microbiology and chemistry impact food preparation and safety. The Nutrition Sciences major focuses on the science-based aspects of human nutrition and the application of those principles to food selection, preparation and consumption. The program has been granted Accreditation for Dietetics Education, allowing graduates to be well equipped to complete training and become a Registered Dietician by taking the Registration Examination for Dietitians. Graduates can expect to find job opportunities in many fields including Sports Nutrition, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Eating Disorder Counseling and Weight Management. Other fields include Pharmaceutical Sales, Food Systems Management and Culinary Arts.
