Studying English Literature at Trent will prepare you for any career that demands creativity, critical inquiry, and strong communication and writing skills. Explore history and culture through language, with literature courses spanning the medieval centuries to the global world of today. Seminar and workshop classes provide opportunities for discussion, critical thinking, and one-on-one interaction with leading scholars. Degree Type B.A. B.A. (Honours). All of the English Department's creative writing courses are also part of the Option in Creative Writing, which is designed for students who have an interest in exploring and developing creative practice as a complement to their current disciplinary studies. The Option is designed for incremental development, aiming to give students an opportunity to study the theory and craft of writing and to apply what they learn in writing activities, assignments and workshops. Over the course of study, students will expand their writing repertoire, build writing communities, learn techniques for revising, and develop methods for generating ideas while building portfolios in prose fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and script-writing.
